An Open Letter To Mythology: The Wicked,Well now, I feel like I've really been inside your pages. Oh wait, I guess, technically, I was. Can I just say that it's weird seeing one's name in a book and reading it over and over? It is, but it's also wonderful when she gets to have "moments" with one of your main book boyfriends. So thank you for that. Also, thanks for being so great on all the other levels. You didn't let me down and that speaks volumes, cause just like character me, I'm kind of hard to please.

Wow, this book is wonderful sequel that doesn't suffer from second book syndrome at all. Boswell throws a ton of new characters into the mix to keep things fresh and yet never detracts from the original characters that she gave us in Mythology. Yes, one of these said new characters is named Christianna, and no that's not a coincidence, she's actually named after me. The fact that I know Boswell is not the reason that I'm telling you that this series is awesome. It has recently come to light that the series is in Hollywood's hands and has been optioned for a possible TV show or movie. So you best read them now, so you can be hipsters of the book world who read the books before they were insanely popular.
What I love about these books are the characters. Hope, Micah and Jonathan are some of my personal favorites and Boswell didn't let me down in book two. She's made things much messier for our leads this time around, if that's even possible, which she proves, it is. Hope is trying to discover how to use her new powers, which causes some new developments. She's both weaker and stronger, and it's an interesting mix to watch come to light. Micah isn't doing so well and so he's making some questionable choices. Jonathan isn't featured as much this time around, but when he shows up he's much more surly, which might make me like him even more. If that's even possible? Can you say book boyfriend?
Yes, those are the main characters, but Boswell also features a full cast of secondaries that add so much to the story. We get to know Micah's best friend Troy a little better, as well as the demon's siblings. Hope's brother Davie and best friend Sylvia have a main role. And then of course we have the new kids Christianna, J.T., Collin and Sam, who add a whole new dimension to things.
Boswell's world building also grows this time around. The origin story is out of the way and her world really shines as one of the main stars. It's a real landscape, but with demons and angels and drama and teen angst you get the world that she wants us to see. She also dives us into places that you've never seen, and never will, but she brings them alive with her words in a way that makes them real.
The love story is there, but it doesn't suffocate the rest of the story. We still get really creepy moments, gory moments, tear inducing moments, sibling bonding moments and many more kinds of moments. The list would be too long for this review if I kept going.
Point blank: read these books. Like Nike says "just do it."

I was lucky enough to read bits of this as Helen was writing it, but I was thrilled to find out that the whole was much greater than the sum of its parts (and the parts themselves were quite good). This is a sequel to Helen's Mythology, but I think this is one of those unique cases where the sequel is even better than the first novel.
The book opens with Hope and Micah struggling to find a way for Micah to live with his demon status; Micah's values mean that he refuses to steal souls from others, but without this energy, he will die in a matter of years. At the same time, they're drawn into a local conspiracy as young demon boys keep surfacing, dead. As the two struggle to solve this mystery, Hope continues to master her own powers and Micah finds himself as a pawn in still another power-struggle, this time with the powerful Praxidikai, who strive to maintain balance between demons and guardians. All of this sounds like it might be too much, but Helen does such a great job weaving together different storylines.
And at the heart of it all is Micah's relationship with Hope. Where book 1 was from Hope's perspective, book two interweaves Hope and Micah's perspectives. And I have to say, I really love Micah. He's sweet, but real, which means he has flaws--and he makes mistakes with real consequences.
The story itself was fast-paced, the writing generally clean, and the romance itself had some definitely swoon-worthy moments. I really enjoyed this--and I can't wait to read book three!

I did not like this book as much as the first. I loved Hope and Micah's chemistry and they just weren't together enough in this book. Micah made strange deals with ominous beings. Took on power he did not know how to control and kept secrets from Hope that he had no business keeping. Hope was on a relentless search to save Micah's soul, without his blessing and even after he told her not to. She seemed less of a heroine in this book and more of the girl who keeps getting in the way. Pathetic almost. Even the ending left me with a nasty taste in my mouth. Okay, join a cause but do you need to abandon everyone while you are doing it....no!
I am not sure I will read the next book, especially if Hope and Micah keep getting separated.
Helen Boswell is such an imaginative author. Characters are well developed and the reading experience is fun. Mythology 1 was great, but I love the alternative character perspectives by Micah and Hope in "The Wicked"!
These characters have grabbed my heart from the first book all the way through the second and making me crave the third.
The second book in the Mythology series focuses primarily on Micah. In the first book, we learn that he is a Demon, struggling against his very nature to be good and to love a girl named Hope.
In book 2 we learn the lengths that Micah just go to protect those he loves from other demons and from himself. It's a difficult journey and it carries a high price.
Full of intrigue, new characters, and a further depth of familiar ones, Boswell has written a staggeringly brilliant sequel. A must read!
First of all let me say that I LOVED this book! There are not many sequels that I love, but this one I do! It was nice to read the different POV's. Even though I was frustrated with some of the character's, and I wanted to yell at them. I still love them no matter what, even if I don't agree with what they are doing. If you love the first book Mythology, then you will love this one!
Be prepared for the roller coaster of emotions. Can't wait for the next book!
